Email Friend Contact Author (iRealtyWire.Org) – TORRANCE, Calif. - The United States Department of Defense has taken occupancy of the newly completed Los Angeles Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) in El Segundo, which was developed by Mar Canyon Grand LLC, announced Allan Mackenzie, president of Mar Ventures, Inc, the LLC's managing member.
The 32,980 square-foot building is located at 1776 E. Grand Avenue and features general office space, a state-of-the-art medical diagnosis and testing facility, medical office and lab space, classrooms, food service, meeting and ceremony rooms. It is the largest of 65 MEPS facilities in the United States and Puerto Rico. The two-story concrete tilt-up building with brick, stucco and blue glass exterior, is staffed with personnel from all military services and is used to qualify applicants and ship recruits for military and federal service during peacetime and mobilization. According to the Department of Defense, the Los Angeles MEPS processes an average of more than 170 men and women per day who go on to become Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines, Coast Guards, and National Guards in the United States Armed Forces. The Los Angeles MEPS was built by Mar Ventures to meet the Department of Defense Anti Terrorism Standards for Buildings. It includes enhanced window construction, dedicated ventilation systems, and specially designed structural detailing for the prevention of progressive collapse. Mar Ventures constructed the LA MEPS facility following sustainable guidelines as specified by the U.S. Green Building and will receive LEED certification. Among the environmental and energy-saving features include low-flow toilets and faucets, light-pollution controls, and energy efficient structures and heating/cooling systems. In addition, Mar Ventures used approximately 30 percent of reclaimed or recycled materials in the construction. The Department of Defense relocated the former Los Angeles MEPS to El Segundo from a decades old building on Rodeo Road in Baldwin Village after signing a 15-year lease. -30- # # #
